Great Stuff! Great story on one of the ambassadors of the game. I was in Kansas City for a conference, when my company hosted a dinner party at the Negro Baseball Hall of Fame. It was spectacular night, but the biggest disappointment was Buck O’Neill who was supposed to be there, took ill and was unable to make it. Still as a thank you, he took the time to sign over 100 baseballs that were given out to everyone. I remember how people who really didn’t know him were touched by his simple token a generosity.
The gentlemen that took the time to walk us through the museum, told us stories not only about Buck, but about other members of the Negro Hall of Fame. It was such an experience and one I have never forgotten.
A week later, Buck O’Neill passed away. I remember being at work when it when the news was posted on the internet. Knowing my love for baseball, a woman who had been in Kansas City as well, brought it to my attention. When she told me, I swore she had tears in her eyes. To me that speaks volume of impact Buck O’Neill - even the slightest bit - could have on people.
